Ep 021: The Quiet Wins We Don’t Celebrate Enough
Winter has a funny way of slowing everything down.
Between sickness, shifting schedules, and the general heaviness that Q1 can bring — especially in a seasonal business — it’s easy to feel behind.
But what if we’re just measuring the wrong things?
In this episode of The Kelsey Bailey Photography Podcast, I’m sharing something that’s quietly changed my perspective this year: celebrating small wins.
Not the loud ones.
Not the Instagrammable ones.
Not the revenue milestones.
The quiet ones.
What Are Quiet Wins?
Quiet wins are the victories that don’t get applause.
They’re the things that don’t always make it into a caption or a highlight reel, but deeply shape the way we live, mother, and build our businesses.
They look like:
- Drinking your coffee while it’s still warm
- Not responding to an email at 9:45pm
- Saying no to something you technically could do
- Stepping away from Instagram for the weekend
- Letting your kids be bored
- Trying something new — even if you’re not good at it
- Feeling behind… and not panicking
They are small.
They are subtle.
And they matter.
Personal Quiet Wins
This season has reminded me that success doesn’t always look productive.
Sometimes it looks like:
- Protecting your mornings.
- Choosing presence over performance.
- Allowing peace to be peaceful (instead of suspicious).
- Sitting in stillness for two minutes without filling it.
Drinking my coffee warm has become a ritual reminder: I don’t have to rush into the day to prove my worth.
That alone is a win.
Motherhood Wins That Don’t Make the Highlight Reel
Some of my biggest quiet wins lately have been in motherhood.
Like:
- Encouraging my kids to try ice skating — even when they were frustrated.
- Watching resilience grow in real time.
- Letting them say “I’m bored”… and not rescuing them from it.
Boredom breeds creativity.
Trying new things builds courage.
Not over-scheduling is a long-game parenting strategy.
These are the wins I want to remember.
Business Wins in a Slow Season
Q1 can feel painfully quiet as a family photographer.
But slow does not mean failing.
This season has brought business wins like:
- Making micro changes quietly behind the scenes.
- Raising prices without dramatic announcements.
- Adding boundaries to client communication.
- Choosing depth over growth.
- Detaching success from follower count and download numbers.
Not everything has to be loud to be powerful.
Some of the strongest business moves happen quietly.
A Permission Slip
If your life feels slow…
If your wins don’t translate well into a photo…
If you feel “behind” but you’re actually just living —
You’re doing better than you think you are.
Tonight, before bed, try this:
Write down three small wins.
Not gratitude.
Not the big stuff.
Just the tiny victories that made today lighter.
You might be surprised how many there are.
As always, I’m raising my coffee mug to you.
May it be warm.
May your wins be steady and soft.
And may you start celebrating the quiet victories that have been there all along.
