A MAMA’S GIFT | ST LOUIS FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

Are you ready for a really lovely story? It all started when an Insta DM arrived one day from a sweet gal. She asked if she could book a session to gift her mom for her mom’s birthday. Trouble was, dates were limited because her brother and sister in law no longer live in the area and were only in town for a day or two. How could I have turned that down?! Listen. As a mom myself to 3 young kiddos, I was so touched that a mama of grown children had asked for a photo session for her birthday-we were NOT going to let her down!

We got the date on the calendar and when I arrived and met them all, I immediately felt right at home. My heart was full seeing the joy on mom’s face as she was surrounded by all of her kids…her husband…and her kids’ partners. It occurred to me all of them being together at that moment was a HUGE gift in itself. It was an absolute honor to put them in front of my camera and capture their current life chapter.

Scrolling through photo blogs and insta, you’re bound to come across countless images of families with young children. But then something happens as the squirmy toddlers turn into tweens who then turn into teens and finally into adults–the photo sessions become fewer and farther between. A mom is left with a huge gap. She’s got a plethora of images from when her children were young and then she’ll have a lovely handful of her with her children when/if they get married but there is SO much life to celebrate in between. I am so glad that this mom recognized that and asked for a session!

The session was SO FUN. A tiny onesie even popped out to build anticipation for their next chapter as Gigi and Papa! I left the session feeling like my heart had grown three sizes. I hadn’t realized how necessary filling this gap for moms with grown children was and now I feel like I’m on a mission. I truly cannot think of anything a mom might want more than some quality time with her big kids with photos that she can treasure forever as an added bonus.

Moms deserve so much more than the iPhone snaps of everyone together on Christmas morning (even though, yes, those are absolutely lovely in their own way) but the photos from this session can be hung up, used on a holiday card, and as a beautiful representation of their life this moment. Mom said the session was ‘the best birthday gift I could’ve ever asked for’ and I believe her! A mama is a mama no matter HOW old her babies are so if you’re in the mood for some heartwarming vibes…scroll on down.

Thanks for listening to your mom, reaching out, gifting her a session that she will never ever forget, and for inviting me into your sweet + wonderful family. I’m sending hugs to every single one of you…and extra smooches to the baby!
