Every year on my birthday, I take a self portrait.

Every year on my birthday, I take a self portrait. For some reason it feels taboo to celebrate with portraits of myself but I’ve been doing it for years and I, now more than ever, want my girls to see that I’m worthy of taking up the space in front of my camera lens just like I encourage them to do every year on their birthdays. My kids are home celebrating with me today (thank you snow day!) and they helped me take my photos and they are my favorite yet. If you don’t feel worthy of taking up space in front of a camera lens without your spouse, your kids or the product you’re selling or art you’re creating-2023 is going to be YOUR year. There is a story behind every photo. Sure, you might fall in love with an image because it looks beautiful but don’t discount the images that FEEL beautiful. And it’s okay if the story behind a certain image is the same every time-I have this little album tucked away in my iPhone of all the times that Harper has held my hand since she started first grade. The photos are blurry, shot with my iPhone and don’t at all scream ‘I AM A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER’ but it isn’t always about perfectly curated, technically correct images. Every single one of these images of Harper’s tiny hand clasped safely in mine is a favorite to me. I’m granting you permission to reach for your camera and start capturing the things in your life that make you FEEL something. And then post them. Print them. These squares are your legacy. Make them FEEL like you 🤍 #bitsofbaileybliss
